Thanks to the efforts of my old friends Frank and Karen Gallant and Friends of the Library, Santa Cruz-ers turned out at the main public library on a Monday evening to hear me read from the book.
The conversation that followed was lively. A few people living in the nearby co-housing community of Walnut Commons were there and it was good to hear from them. Others wanted to find out if there were affordable options—especially important in the Bay area where housing costs are insane. Others talked about local learning opportunities at OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute), especially relating to building community and conscious aging.
Special bonus for me: Marylanders Paul and Merry Treanor, sibs of our dear friend Tom (whom you met in the Austin segment of this blog) were there, as was Tom’s cousin. It also meant a lot to me to have some younger community-minded folks attend, including our friends Julie Gallant and Kendra Baker.
